Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2008
This year’s Tradition I-CAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament was the biggest yet. The tournament took place from the 10th- 15th June at Calderstones Park and was a fantastic success.
Throughout the five days of play audiences enjoyed matches between legends Goran Ivanisevic, Pat Cash, Mansour Bahrami and Pete Mcnamara to name just a few. Martina Hignis and Jana Novotna battled it out in the Ladies Legends final, Hingis was crowned the winner.
The match was a re-run of the 1997 Wimbledon final in which Hingis won at the tender age of 15 to become the youngest ever Wimbledon champion, “It was great to be out there playing again,” said Martina, “I’ve had a great time in Liverpool and I hope I can come back next year and do it all again!”.
Liverpool was the first grass tournament that Hingis had played since retiring last year. Hospitality at the tournament in 2008 was the best yet, with all table’s being sold out months before the tournament, echoing the first rate service the tournament provides to its guest’s.
The 2009 tournament will be the only grass tournament north of London in the run up to Wimbledon! Ampersand has been associated with the tournament event since it started in 2004. This year the Ampersand team provided a strategic marketing plan for the tournament, supported by a fantastic creative campaign, as well as providing press management and player liaison throughout the six-day event.
“Being associated with the event is fantastic for Ampersand and it is something we look forward to being involved in each year. The week of the tournament gives us a great sense of pride as we see the event unfold in front of our eyes. Anders has done the city proud through the development of this event, we are so lucky to have it in the city. We can’t wait for next year”, Emma Blackmore, Managing Director, Ampersand.
